Taking a bath
You won’t find a more comprehensive bath and brush package anywhere else. Designer Paws Salon only uses premium shampoo, conditioner, face wash, and cologne. While your pet is being bathed, we use a system that massages them. During the first bath, we use a special hypoallergenic face wash shampoo to clean deep down. To enhance your pet’s natural color, we use a coloring enhancing shampoo during the second bath. After the bath, we finish it with a light conditioning that can always be upgraded to a deep conditioning. You or your pet can upgrade to our blueberry facial or teeth brushing if nothing but the best will do. Anal glands can also be expressed for an additional fee.
Grooming for cats
A cat grooming and bathing service is available at Designer Paws Salon. As part of our commitment to keeping our feline friends safe and secure, we provide them with their own room.
Our cat grooming is of the highest quality. We like to keep cats in our salon the least amount of time, with most cats getting done in about 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. In order to make the grooming experience a pleasant one and not a stressful one, we ask that cats be picked up shortly after the visit.
Contrary to popular belief, cats do not clean themselves, but lick and spread saliva around all the time. In cats, saliva causes grease to build up in their coats, which traps shedding hair by sticking together to form clumps. In the process of “cleaning” the cat’s stomach, the hair can build up, resulting in a hairball on the bed or even a life-threatening blockage that will require a veterinarian’s attention. Not to mention all the cat hair on your furniture and clothes.
The clumps will form small mats if the coat is not properly bathed every 4-6 weeks. Mats will grow larger and larger until the cat is covered in a “pelt,” which is very painful for the cat. There are many things you can find under these pelts, including infected soars, fleas, bald spots, skin infections, and dander. Professional cat groomers can help you avoid these issues.
Grooming with creativity
It can range from something as simple as a feather in an ear to something as extravagant as a whole pet colored theme.
You can rest assured that all of our products are pet-safe, and we would never use anything that could harm your pet. Neither every pet nor every owner will benefit from this style of grooming. In order to apply dyes or temporary colors, the pet must sit still. After all is said and done, they do strut their stuff. The attention that pets receive from other people is simply wonderful when they have even just a little color in their ears or tails.
Grooming for dogs
Whether you want a show cut, hand scissors, hand stripping, carding, or a bit of color, Designer Paws Salon can handle all your dog’s grooming styles. With experience handling dogs weighing up to 250 pounds, we are able to accommodate large breeds. Your dog will receive the personal attention it deserves from our award-winning competition groomers.
Upon arrival at Designer Paws Salon, your dog will be assessed and if abnormalities are found, a veterinarian will be recommended.
The dead hair that naturally sheds on your pet year round can also cause matting when it is not professionally groomed on a regular 4-6 week schedule. In addition to keeping your dog cooler, removing the dead coat will allow air to flow more freely. A dog’s nails need to be trimmed every four weeks to avoid discomfort.
Stripping the hands
Terriers have double coats. The dull colored softer undercoat and the rich colored wire top coat make up their coat. Stripping by hand involves plucking or using a stripping knife to remove the dead from the top coat. The hair is removed from a dirty coat because it’s easier to grip. The new hair that emerges from the hair follicles after removing the top coat with this method will be thicker and more vibrant.
A terrier’s top coat has a wire texture and only the upper portion is colored. Hair is very thin and dull in color in the lower portion of the top coat. When you spread out the coat with your fingers and see dull and soft undercoat, the terrier needs to be hand stripped. Hand stripping is necessary at this time to prevent the coat from changing color and becoming softer. A blown coat is what it sounds like.
It is the same hair follicle that produces the top coat and the under coat. In the absence of hand-stripping and carding, fine hairs and sebum will clog the hair follicles. Miniature Schnauzers may develop pimples or acne as a result of this.
